CRADLING a baby in each arm, Cristiano Ronaldo looks every bit the proud father of twins.
The Real Madrid star revealed the latest additions to his family, born to a surrogate mother in the US.
Posting a picture on Instagram, the 32-year-old Portugal captain confirmed the new arrivals following his country’s exit from the Confederations Cup in Russia.
‘So happy to be able to hold the two new loves of my life,’ the footballer said. The boy and girl have been named Eva and Mateo according to Portuguese TV.
They join Ronaldo’s seven-yearold son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr – whose mother’s identity has never been revealed – to complete a hattrick of children for the recordbreaking goalscorer. His brood is said to be about to expand further as the former Manchester United star’s 22-year-old girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez is rumoured to be five months pregnant.
Ronaldo, who has scored an astonishing 47 hat-tricks in his career, wrote on Facebook: ‘I was in the service of the national team, as it always happens, body and soul, even though I knew my two children were born.
‘I am very happy to finally be able to be with my children for the first time.’
The twins are thought to have been born on the west coast of America to an unidentified surrogate mother.
It was reported earlier this month that Ronaldo had become a father again and that his mother Dolores dos Santos had already visited the twins. He flew home immediately after Wednesday’s semi-final, in which Portugal were beaten by Chile on penalties, and will miss the third-place match.
The Portuguese Football Association said Ronaldo told them and the national team manager before the tournament began two weeks ago that he had become a father again.
‘The player, despite knowing about the birth of his children, decided to stay with the national team, which is a gesture we want to highlight,’ it said.
‘Having failed to win the Confederations Cup, we had to release the player so that he could finally go and meet his children.’
Ronaldo is the world’s highestpaid athlete, with his financial records showing he earned £190million in 2015. He declared just under £20million of income earned from inside Spain with Real Madrid, with more than £170million made outside of Spain, much of it from image rights.
The decision by his management company to release the player’s financial details followed accusations of tax evasion by the Span- ish authorities. This followed a data leak that included documents claiming Ronaldo had hidden £126million from image rights income since 2009 in the British Virgin Islands, something he denies. His net worth has been estimated at around £400million.
