Passengers face long delays from US laptop check
AIRLINES yesterday warned of ‘significant disruption’ to British passengers after the US authorities increased security on flights to America.
Britons will endure ‘unnecessary frustration’ because of time-consuming checks on laptops, a trade group representing transatlantic carriers American Airlines and United Airlines said.
The Department of Homeland Security said the measures were necessary to prevent terrorist sneaking bombs into the cabin disguised as computers.
They will include extra swabbing of laptops and more sniffer dogs, leading to longer queues at security, ABC News reported. Passengers could also face extra security checkpoints.
The department said the additional checks will be brought in over the next three weeks. In March it banned laptops on flights from ten foreign airports.
The Trump administration last night implemented part of its travel ban on six Muslim majority nations after the US Supreme Court ruled it could partially go into effect. People from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen visiting America will have to have a ‘bona-fide’ relationship with somebody or an institution in the US to be let in.
