COLLINS, 52, AND BENN, 53, WANT FIGHT!

- BEN GROUNDS

FORMER world champions Nigel Benn and Steve Collins want a rematch — more than 20 years after they retired. Collins, 52, and Benn, 53, fought twice in 1996, with Irishman Collins winning both times. But Benn’s son Conor has spoken out against the plan and the British Boxing Board of Control say they have not received licence applications for either boxer and consider a fight ‘unlikely’. Benn, the ‘Dark Destroyer’, insisted: ‘I’m Nigel “Benjamin Button” Benn. I feel like I am in my 30s. I asked Steve if he wanted to fight. He said yes. No mucking about.’ Conor, 20, a welterweight, said: ‘He’s my dad and it’s not entertaining for me. He’s had a blessed career and once you go into the ring, you’re on your own. I think he should leave it. What’s he fighting for? He’s got kids, he’s got family.’ Collins, who retired on medical grounds, said: ‘It’s just about money, a payday to buy more land. I’m not fighting a 20-year-old. I’m fighting someone the same age. I get medicals every year and the most impressive part is my MRI. “Excellent” was how the neurosurgeon described it.’
