T20 star Malan all set for Test call-up

DAWID MALAN could be given a shock England Test debut against South Africa at Lord’s next Thursday.

The opener impressed in the Twenty-20 decider in Cardiff on Sunday, helping secure a series win after smashing 78 in 44 balls.

Malan, 29, could benefit from Haseeb Hameed’s dip in form, with Hameed’s Lancashire teammate Jos Buttler also set to miss out. Other names in the frame when the selectors meet at Worcester’s New Road today will be the uncapped pair of Surrey opener Mark Stoneman and Middlesex all- rounder Toby Roland- Jones.

England coach Trevor Bayliss said: ‘In the two years I’ve been here, it will be the toughest selection meeting I’ve had. It’s a good problem to have, though.’
