Childhood dream comes true for wildcard Katie

-

as a little girl, Katie Boulter would spend her summers glued to the television as tim henman played at Wimbledon.

Fifteen years on, she will finally take to the court herself to represent her country.

after being given a wildcard, Miss Boulter, 20, ranked 235th in the world, will take part in her first Grand slam on tuesday, playing against Usa’s Christina Mchale, ranked 59th.

Only two years ago the athlete, from Woodhouse Eaves, Leicestershire, posted a picture, right, of herself online at centre court watching as a spectator.

the caption read: ‘nice being a spectator at Wimby this year but i can’t wait to be back and play. Until next time Wimby.’ speaking ahead of the championship, Miss Boulter, who had to take a year out from tennis after falling ill in 2016, told the Daily Mail: ‘i’ve had to overcome a number of challenges to get here. Being able to play at Wimbledon will make it all worth it.’
