BECAUSE personalit­y is a complex thing, it’s not always easy to say for sure when someone has a disorder. The symptoms can also be mistaken for other mental health problems, such as depression or bipolar, as they can superficia­lly seem very similar. The part of the brain responsibl­e for our personalit­y is the prefrontal cortex — found just behind your forehead above the eyes.

This area is still growing right up until our mid-20s. Because of this, most doctors try to avoid diagnosing a personalit­y disorder in people until they are at least in their 20s.
