THOUGHTS OF SCHOOL

-

School seems such a silly place And such a waste of time From going home just after three To getting there by nine. We learn about the Vikings With their funny two-horned hats But I’ve NEVER seen a Viking So what’s the point of that? We learn about the dinosaurs; Stegosaurus and T-Rex, But my mum said no when I asked her — Can I have one for a pet? We have to learn our ‘tables’ But from what I can hear The only tables grownups know Are the tables from Ikea! Teachers can be silly, too Is yours a funny one? Who expects you to do your homework Instead of having fun? We have to write and read and things, And if that’s not enough We have to be kind and polite as well And all that kind of stuff! But did you know your teacher Is really rather cool? And she has a very special place Not only here at school. She’ll be with you when you’re growing up — A kind of evergreen As you remember all she taught you Although she won’t be seen. And you will have wonderful memories Of the classroom, playground and hall, So you see school isn’t a silly place, Not a silly place at all. Sheila Webb, Chesham, Bucks.
