Craft brewer’s big sale

-

A FASHIONABLE London brewery that started under railway arches is being snapped up by Carlsberg.

London Fields Brewery’s craft beers will join the Danish company’s portfolio under the deal thought to be worth around £1m.

Its founder Julian De Vere Whiteway-Wilkinson, who is facing tax fraud charges, has left and the firm will be run under a joint venture between Carlsberg and New York beer maker Brooklyn Brewery.

It will keep the same name and Carlsberg will invest so it can re- start brewing under the arches in Hackney, east London, where London Fields started.

Julian Momen, Carlsberg’s UK boss, said: ‘It’s the right move for us as we build a credible craft portfolio.’
