We’ve saved £600 — and it keeps us safe

-

FAITH ADDISON and her sister Grace, both 19, passed their driving tests within ten days of one another in August 2015. But when they tried to insure their Vauxhall Corsa they were shocked by how much it cost.

Faith (above left) and Grace (right), who are from Lancashire, were quoted premiums as high as £7,000 — with the average policy costing around £3,000.

When a friend recommended Tesco Bank Box insurance, they found they could get a policy for £1,600, with Faith as the main driver, as she uses the car to drive to and from college, and Grace an additional driver, as she only uses the car socially.

Between them they can drive up to 8,000 miles a year and earn up to 100 bonus miles each month for safe driving — in the first month they earned 98. After one year of no claims, their premium dropped to £999.

‘I know some people don’t like the idea, but I’m not interested in speeding or driving thousands of miles, I just want to drive safely and save some money,’ says Grace, who works in retail. ‘My dad also likes that he can go online and check we’re safe and that the car is where it’s supposed to be.’

Grace recalls that once when they hit a pothole the box detected a fault, prompting a call from their insurer. The wheel had been damaged, and if they hadn’t been called they may not have noticed until it caused a more serious problem.
