£240 penalty to leave Virgin Media

- l.milner@dailymail.co.uk

VIRGIN MEDIA is charging customers up to £240 in exit fees if they want to cancel their contract early.

Telecoms watchdog Ofcom is investigating whether these charges are fair. Not all parts of the UK can get TV, phone and internet services with Virgin Media.

If you move to an area not covered by its network you will need to cancel your contract and switch to another provider. Yet Virgin Media states in its terms and conditions that an early disconnection fee is charged if you change address within the minimum contract period or don’t continue with its services ‘for any reason’.

A Virgin Media spokeswoman says: ‘We note Ofcom’s investigation into early termination charges and will work with them during the course of their inquiry.’
