Costa del Swansea! Welsh beach named the best in Europe
IT may seem like a far cry from the gleaming white shores of Hawaii and Brazil – but a three-mile stretch of beach near Swansea has been voted as being among the world’s best.
Rhossili Bay on the western tip of the Gower Peninsula in South Wales was the only European beach to feature in the top 10 list compiled by Suitcase Magazine, a travel publication, alongside locations such as fashionable South Beach in Miami. Swansea councillor Robert Francis-Davies said it ‘reinforced how lucky we are to have a world-class beach on our doorstep’.
The stunning shoreline has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for its sand dunes and beautiful green hills. Pamalican Island, off the Philippines, was voted the world’s best in the Suitcase magazine list, followed by Bocas del Toro in Panama and Tikehau Island in French Polynesia.
