KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB
BARGAIN OF THE WEEK
Dawn Patrol Sauvignon Blanc 2016, now £7.49, Waitrose
FROM Elim, one of South Africa’s coolest (in terms of temperature and impressiveness) wine-growing spots. A brilliantly simple, fresh white with lots of character; perfect goes-with-anything white.
SPARKLING WINE Freixenet Prosecco NV, £12, Tesco
THIS comes in a blingy cut-glass bottle with bags of Instagram appeal. And it’s one of the better proseccos I’ve tasted recently, with pear flavours and soft bubbles.
Antipasti.
FOOD PAIRING: RED WINE Taste The Difference Pic Saint Loup 2015, £8, Sainsbury’s
A GORGEOUS mash up of Syrah and Grenache grapes from Languedoc, Southern France. The wine retains some unpolished gorgeousness from its rugged surrounding landscape. Think juicy bramble fruits and a big helping of spice.
Barbecued meat.
FOOD PAIRING: ROSE WINE Las Fincas Rosado 2015, £14.95, Great Western Wine
SO PINK, it looks like it’s had pomegranate seeds steeped in it. It’s been left to sit on its lees (yeasts after fermentation) for a while, adding oomph to the redcurrant flavours, so it’s very food-friendly.
FOOD PAIRING: Anything picnic-y.
The Knackered Mother’s Wine Club by helen McGinn (Pan Macmillan, £7.99).
