CHARLES DANCE has spent much of his life playing aristocratic cads, but he always felt that he belonged downstairs rather than upstairs, because his own mother worked as a humble servant. Beyond that, the actor (pictured) knows very little about his background, and so, in this first of a new run of the genealogy series, he heads into his past and discovers a rich family history. The best bit comes when he sees a portrait of his great-great-greatgreat-grandmother, who bears a striking resemblance. ‘She looks like me in drag!’ exclaims an astonished Dance.
