Boris: I would love to tweet just like Trump
BORIS Johnson yesterday said he wished he had the freedom to tweet like Donald Trump.
The Foreign Secretary, pictured, said the US President had used the social network to ‘grip the imagination of people around the world’. He said Mr Trump’s approach is ‘engaging’ voters in a way few have done before.
Mr Johnson, noted for his gaffe-prone diplomacy, told Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘I certainly wouldn’t be allowed to tweet in a way that he does much as I might like to. I can see my Foreign Office minders here looking extremely apprehensive.’
Mr Trump has used Twitter to taunt his foes, attack British MPs and boost his self-esteem – but they have often led to dramatic market reactions and anger among foreign leaders. Mr Johnson’s official Twitter feed includes more serious posts on subjects such as sanctions.
