Soccer star who became hedge fund boss ordered to pay customer £60k

- by Holly Black

A PREMIER League footballer- who began a hedge fund must pay fees back to a customer in a row over refunds.

Swiss national Ramon Vega, 46, played for Tottenham Hotspur from 1997 to 2001 as well as appearing for Switzerland.

Now living in London, he has a business degree and in 2008 founded Vega Swiss Asset Management, which has been ordered to pay nearly £60,000 to a customer, in a row over a refund. The fees relate to Vega Swiss speculating for the client on foreign exchange trading.

The customer, named only as Mr M, paid a fee in advance and when the arrangement stopped in 2014, Vega Swiss agreed to repay £73,784.26 over the next 12 months. But the client says he only received £15,000 back.

An investigation ruled in the customer’s favour but Vega Swiss, which did not deny the claim, then appealed to the Financial Ombudsman.

Now, the Ombudsman has recommended that Vega Swiss pay the balance – some £58,784.26 – as well as interest of 8pc a year, backdated to May 1, 2016.
