Manchester attack: Bins clue at home of bomber’s relatives

- By James Tozer

COUSINS of the Manchester Arena suicide bomber were seen dumping wires in bins before and after the atrocity which killed 22 people, neighbours claimed yesterday.

As police arrested a 19-year-old man over terrorism offences in Liverpool, officers searched a house in Manchester where Salman Abedi’s aunt and two cousins are understood to live.

Abedi, 22, is said to have been a regular visitor, but the house is thought not to have been previously raided.

As a woman and a youth were led away by police last night, officers were seen examining bins as at least five police vans remained parked in the road.

It came as neighbours told of their concerns at electrical waste allegedly thrown away by two young men – said to be aged between 18 and 20 – who are understood to be the woman’s sons.

Residents had also received police let- ters informing them the search was executed as a ‘necessary and important’ part of the ongoing police investigation in relation to the attack on May 22.

The semi-detached house, in Fallowfield, south Manchester, is just 130 yards from the former Abedi family home.

Jackie Kelly, 44, said: ‘The two boys were dumping their bins up the alleyway [across the road] at night for a good two months before the bombing and twice afterwards.

‘There was wires all in a green bin and it was left in the passage. The council came to clear it up.’

Another neighbour, Ali Mohamed, said Abedi used to visit the housing association property, adding: ‘He didn’t show any danger or anything bad.’

Greater Manchester Police said a 19year-old man was arrested on arrival at Liverpool John Lennon Airport yesterday on suspicion of offences contrary to the Terrorism Act. The move came less than 24 hours after the officer leading the investigation, Detective Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson, said he suspected Abedi had not acted alone. He did not rule out further arrests.
