Luvvie Emma on Kardashian £24k-a-week party yacht
LEFTIE actress Emma Thompson’s pious rants have earned her a reputation as ‘the worst sort of fat cat luvvie’. So the millionaire Corbynista’s lavish Greek cruise may not float everyone’s boat.
I can reveal that Thompson, 58, has been keeping up with the Kardashians on a £24,000-a-week yacht called O’Ceanos, aboard which the bling American family filmed some of their reality show.
The Oscar-winner was with fellow thespians Hayley Atwell, who starred alongside Thompson in Brideshead Revisited, and Ben Whishaw, who played Q in the most recent James Bond films.
A source in the Aegean says the trio enjoyed a ‘ leisurely tour’ around the Cyclades islands, spending several days aboard the ‘sumptous’ gin palace. The 161ft boat costs £24,000 per week to hire in high season — before taxes, food and drink — and is manned by 11 staff, including a butler.
O’Ceanos is chartered by Valef Yachts, a broker to the rich and famous whose ‘mega-yachts’ hire for up to £70,000 per week. As well as the Kardashians, last summer Valef hired out a boat to ‘members of Donald Trump’s family’.
The website boasts that the O’Ceanos offers ‘unparalleled luxury’ for guests, who can ‘ bask under the sun after a soak in the Jacuzzi’, or ‘dine under the stars in pure delight’. On this holiday Thompson amused herself filming a barking video of pop song Who Let The Dogs Out, where she hid her blonde locks under a wig and squeezed into a low- cut bathing suit as she boogied about.
She also stopped off at the island of Folegandros, where Thompson and Atwell bought each other jewellery at Chora Jewels, owned by Stamatis Pouris. Pouris reports: ‘They were talking about how they had fallen in love with Folegandros and wanted to come back and buy a second home.’
Perhaps Emma is considering her own Brexit, after calling Britain a ‘cake-filled, misery-laden, grey old island’ ahead of the referendum. Her sneering attack enraged Conor Burns MP, who as well as calling her a ‘fat cat luvvie’ said she is ‘welcome to leave’.
Thompson, worth £30 million after starring in the Harry Potter and Nanny McPhee films, is a life- long Labour voter, calling Jeremy Corbyn ‘sound and intelligent’.
She and actor husband Greg Wise, who live in a £3.5 million home in leafy Hampstead, North London, are classic champagne socialists. In 2015, the Hampstead Two threatened to stop paying taxes until bankers were jailed.
Wise said: ‘I have actively loved paying tax because I am a profound f***ing socialist and I believe we’re all in it together. Em’s on board.’ As long as there’s a butler.
