Swansea slap £45m tag on Sigurdsson

- IAN LADYMAN

SWANSEA have told Everton they want more than £45million for playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson. The Welsh club are aware of increasing interest in Sigurdsson from Everton and also from Leicester City. Everton hope to do a deal somewhere near the £35m mark for one of their top transfer targets but sources at Swansea indicated they will not sell for less than £45m and ideally, with various playing-related add-ons, want nearer £50m. A source close to the Swansea board told MailOnline yesterday: ‘Swansea will not be pushed around and are not looking to sell. They have a figure in mind that they feel represents Sigurdsson’s worth in the market and if nobody reaches that they are very comfortable about keeping him.’ Sigurdsson is attracted by a move to Merseyside but is not agitating to leave. Everton have not yet made a formal bid but Leicester have been in touch with Swansea to indicate they would be prepared to go above £40m, especially if their playmaker Riyad Mahrez moves on. Tottenham have also considered a bid for former player Sigurdsson but now that interest has cooled.
