Aldi creates 4,000 jobs
ALDI is to create 4,000 jobs as the supermarket chain plans to open 300 more stores in the UK by 0 0.
The German budget firm’s aggressive expansion plan comes just a week after rival Lidl revealed it would open 50 to 60 stores a year for the next two years as part of a £1.5billion investment in the UK.
The big four grocers – Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda – have all lost market share to Aldi and Lidl which now account for 11.9 per cent of the market. Aldi, which is planning to open 70 stores this year alone, said the jobs will predominately be store assistant, assistant manager and deputy manager roles. The supermarket currently has more than 700 stores and employs about 9,000 people.
The retailer has also been poaching workers from its rivals by paying staff above the living wage, making it the highest-paying supermarket in Britain.
