Polling booth graffiti said: ‘Vote Labour ... keep P***s out of politics’

-

A TORY candidate was the target of racist graffiti daubed inside a polling booth on election day.

Ameet Jogia, who stood against Labour frontbencher Barry Gardiner in Brent North, London, filed a complaint after officials failed to remove the shocking message.

It read: ‘Vote Labour Barry, not Jogia. Keep P***s out of politics’.

Mr Jogia, who was born and raised in north-west London, said: ‘I have never experienced any racism in my life at all and I was standing in Brent, which is a very diverse area, so I was surprised this sort of abuse would happen here. What hurt me the most was that it stayed there and no one took it down. The officers say they were not aware of it, it is sad that no one else reported it.’

The 30-year-old added: ‘The campaign was very aggressive in terms of Labour.’

Last night Brent Council said: ‘We deplore the racist and abhorrent graffiti that was found at one of our polling stations ... we became aware of the graffiti after the polling station was closed.’

Mr Gardiner condemned the ‘disgraceful’ graffiti, adding: ‘There is no place in politics for personal abuse.’
