Strawberries are simply ace

THE wall-to-wall tennis on TV has left Britons hungry for strawberries, with some supermarkets reporting a 2 1 per cent surge in sales last week.

Stores in Wimbledon also see a 1,600-per-cent spike in the sales of miniature sparkling wine during the championships.

Last year, 126,000 tonnes of strawberries were sold in the UK, and Sainsbury’s claims that for the four summer months, more people buy the fruit than purchase household staples such as milk and bread.
