The future of work?
THE 115-page report on the future of employment recommends:
Phasing out cash-inhand work to stop selfemployed dodging tax
Requiring new migrants, as part of their visas, to show they will use electronic payments, not cash in hand
Considering higher minimum wage for zero-hours contracts to compensate for flexible working
Offering employment rights to people who work for firms such as Uber and Deliveroo, which require workers to be self-employed
Examining case for raising National Insurance for self-employed and firms that use them, to end ‘unjustified and unsustainable’ advantages in the tax system
The report also warns against increasing red tape for traditional employers in a way that might encourage them to switch to using selfemployed workers
