Cloud-cuckoo rent
THE article about the income needed to maintain a happy family life with two children claimed that it is possible to rent a property for £91.05 a week (Mail).
My daughter, grandson and granddaughter would have loved to live in a small house with a garden, but were happy to accept a new three-bedroom housing association maisonette with a monthly rent of £750.
My daughter’s monthly take-home pay is £1,200. With the cost of council tax and utilities, this leaves very little for food and clothing and certainly nothing for leisure activities.
My daughter is grateful for what she has and, fortunately, I am in a position to help out financially. But life would certainly be easier if her rent was only £100 a week. JANET JARDINE, Brentwood, Essex.
