Corbyn’s coal irony

-

I HAD to stifle a laugh when I read Jeremy Corbyn had addressed the Durham Miners’ gala at the weekend to massed adulation from Labour supporters, trades unionists and former miners.

To the large crowd of his followers who chanted his name, Corbyn told them that if he were prime minister he would have tackled President Trump on global warming and his desire to walk away from the Paris climate change accord.

President Trump is sceptical about climate change, but is dedicated to protecting the rights of miners in Pennsylvania and West Virginia to continue excavating coal.

The irony of this was lost on Corbyn’s pals and the benighted British coal-mining industry.

He preached about climate change in the very place where people had been thrown out of work just as other emerging markets such as India were increasing coal production in order to support their own industries. ALLAN MULHoLLAND,
