Blood scandal
THE medical profession can’t be blamed for the contaminated blood scandal (Mail).
Dr Katharine Dormandy set up the Haemophilia Centre at the Royal Free Hospital in the mid-Sixties and I was the medical scientist responsible for the technical side.
She had many discussions with various Ministers of Health and other MPs, but none could understand why we felt we should not be using blood products from the U.S., even though she pointed out American blood donors were paid and many were drug addicts. WENDY WILSoN, Hemingford Grey, Cambs.
