We could still win doubles

-

THERE are still high hopes Britain will see a Wimbledon champion thanks to the mixed doubles.

Former Wimbledon winner Jamie Murray, elder brother of Andy, reached the semi-finals yesterday with his Swiss partner Martina Hingis, the former ladies champion.

Meanwhile his fellow Briton and reigning mixed doubles champion Heather Watson, 25, reached the same stage with Finland’s Henri Kontinen. The pair won their first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last year.

Murray, 31, won in 2007 alongside Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic, while Miss Hingis won in 2015 with Indian Leander Paes. The pair only announced their partnership last week, but have managed to gel very quickly.

The Scot also won the men’s doubles titles at the Australian Open and US Open last year.
