A PLEDGE was given to the german people yesterday that the Wehrmacht will turn their full fury against europe as they fall back to the borders of the Reich. ‘The Russian flood threatens to spill over our holy german land,’ said a soldier on the german Forces radio. ‘We will turn this continent into a maelstrom of destructio­n.’

THE Bill to abolish hanging was passed this morning after seven months of argument. The final free vote on the Bill, which substitute­s life imprisonme­nt for the death penalty, was 200 to 98.
