OH WONDER: Ultralife (Island)

WITH sirens and the sound of London buses in the background, there is a homespun feel to the second album from this London duo. Although made in singer Josephine Vander Gucht’s garden studio, there is nothing amateurish about its keyboard-driven pop. Vander Gucht’s elegant vocals shine on High On Humans and the elegiac ballad My Friends. Anthony West’s analogue synths supply the melodic layers. ★★★★✩
