FIRST NIGHT OF THE PROMS, 9PM, BBC2

KATIE DERHAM (pictured right) is at the Royal Albert Hall in London (starting on BBC4 at 8pm) as the world’s biggest music festival gets under way. The main draw on tonight’s bill is Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 3, played by award-winning Russian pianist Igor Levit. Plus, American composer John Adams’s 70th birthday is celebrated with a performance of his modernist masterpiece, Harmonium. Edward Gardner conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the BBC Proms Youth Choir in a fitting start to a summer of music across television and radio.
