I WAS one of the first female special constabula­ry officers trained and qualified for duty in Liverpool.

The only payment we received was ‘ boot money’ (Letters), which was sixpence in old money for each shift.

I enjoyed my time, with a companion who was a ‘proper officer’, especially when on traffic duties.
