ENABLE’S GEORGE TILT

- MARCUS TOWNEND

THE King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot a week on Saturday and next month’s Yorkshire Oaks are potential targets for Enable. The Khaled Abdullah-owned filly comfortably added Saturday’s Irish Oaks to her win in the English equivalent for trainer John Gosden and jockey Frankie Dettori. It was a performance which marked down Enable as arguably the best middledistance three-year-old in Europe. Lord Grimthorpe, the racing manager to Abdullah, said: ‘She won pretty easily and has not got much mileage on the clock, so you would hope for a little more improvement. The King George is less than two weeks away, so it may come a bit too soon, but obviously we’ll have to look at it.’ In 2014 Gosden’s Oaks winner Taghrooda became only the second filly since Time Charter in 1983 to win the King George. Clive Cox’s July Cup winner Harry Angel heads to the Haydock Sprint Cup in September, while the next run for beaten favourite Caravaggio, who could only finish fourth, may be the six-and-a-half-furlong Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville across the Channel on August 6.
