Inmates could get vote

-

PROPOSALS to give prisoners the vote for the first time were unveiled yesterday by the Welsh government.

The Labour-run regime wants to allow all 3,200 inmates serving time there to vote in local elections.

The UK Government has resisted any relaxation in the rules for years in defiance of rulings from the European Court of Human Rights. Bob Neill, chairman of the Commons Justice Committee, said: ‘Labour are dangerously out of touch with the public – and Jeremy Corbyn must clarify whether he backs this foolish plan.’

Welsh Tory leader Andrew RT Davies rejected the plan, saying those jailed for serious crimes had ‘opted out of what we class as society’ and should lose their vote.
