MANY current accounts offer high interest rates on balances up to £3,000 or £5,000. Can I open several of these with the same bank to earn the maximum interest on my £10,000 savings? P. H., Norfolk.

BANKS often allow you two of these highinterest current accounts as long as one is in joint names. So a couple, for example, could have three of the same account — an individual one each plus a joint one. Or you could open several interest-bearing current accounts with different banks.

I’VE heard buy-to-let landlords can save money by setting up a limited company, but my existing lender won’t allow this. Where do I go from here? A. N., Manchester.

BeFORe you do anything, I’d advise speak-

ing to a tax accountant as well as a specialist buy-to-let mortgage broker. Not only will it cost you money to run a company, but you’ll have to pay stamp duty and capital gains tax (cGT) if you transfer your existing properties into a limited company. To find an accountant, try accaglobal.com, or call 0141 582 2000. For a broker, visit unbiased.

co.uk or call 0800 023 6868.

I SAW a dress in a boutique with a £20 price tag on it. When I got to the till, the barcode showed it was £39.99. They refused to sell it to me for £20. Is this allowed? P. F., Hove, W. Sussex.

YeS. You have no right to be sold the item at the lower price, no matter what the label says. however, some shops will honour the price tag, so it’s always worth asking.

I READ your story last week about cancer patients with money worries calling the Macmillan Cancer Support? Please can you publish the number? S. C., via email.

I BOUGHT Egyptian pounds from Hays Travel in Exeter. The receipt stated I could return any money to be exchanged commission free. But I was told they no longer deal in this currency, so now I’m stuck with 2,300 Egyptian Pounds (£100). K. H., Exeter.

hAYS has agreed to exchange your money for sterling if you go back to the branch.
