BA cabin crew stage another walkout in pay dispute

- Daily Mail Reporter

BRITISH Airways cabin crew are to strike for another fortnight after the end of their walkout in a pay dispute.

The new action on August 2 by members of the Unite union means the staff will have been on strike for four weeks. Unite said it showed their ‘deepening resolve’ to win the battle with bosses.

The workers have already taken 46 days of strike action since January in what is becoming one of the longest-running disputes in the aviation industry.

Unite claimed that cabin crew who are covering for striking workers would be getting ‘perilously close’ to their legal number of flying hours.

‘Attempts by British Airways to bribe cabin crew into not striking with a £250 bung represent a crude attempt to sow division and will ultimately fail,’ said national officer Oliver Richardson.

‘Such actions by British Airways will only serve to deepen the resolve of our

members and the support they are receiving from the public and politicians.

‘Covering cabin crew are perilously close to their legal flying times and could ultimately be pushed over the number of hours they are allowed to fly in the next 28 days.

‘Rather than spending money on crude bribes and millions on leasing aircraft to defend its low pay and bullying behaviour, it’s time British Airways started talking about resolving this dispute, which will further tarnish its brand.’

Unite has launched legal action against the Government’s decision to give the goahead to BA leasing nine Airbus aircraft from Qatar Airways during the strike.
