Follow-up

THE anecdote about an ex-RAF pilot being posted to become an Army officer reminded me of my training. Our squad sergeant was dealing with a recruit who was having difficulty learning drill. The sergeant went up to the recruit and said: ‘Look, laddie, if you don’t start showing some signs of intelligence, I’m going to recommend you to become an officer.’
