Luggage could be collected at your door
PASSENGERS could soon be spared the stress of queuing at the airport luggage check-in by having bags collected directly from their doorsteps.
Under proposals to make flying easier, holidaymakers could also drop off their suitcases in town centre check-ins.
After picking up their boarding cards, they would then make their own way to the airport unencumbered by heavy baggage, which they would not see again until they land.
The measures – already used in Hong Kong and Japan – would free up space on commuter trains clogged up with luggage and make journeys easier for disabled passengers.
The suggestions are outlined in Department for Transport documents setting out aviation strategy until 2050. Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said: ‘Our vision puts the passenger at the heart, but also recognises the need to address the impacts of aviation on communities and the environment.’
