Severn crossing toll to be axed next year

-

TOLLS on the Severn crossings from England to Wales will be abolished for all vehicles at the end of next year.

They are used by more than 25million vehicles annually crossing the Bristol Channel on the M4 and M48 and regular car users could save up to £1,400. The £6.70 charge on cars is levied only on westbound traffic, earning it the nickname a ‘tax on Wales’.

AA president Edmund King said: ‘The Government should go one step further and scrap all public bridge tolls.

‘The Dartford crossing was “paid for” in 2003 yet governments have reneged on promises to scrap tolls.’
