Golden girl Cox so hard to please

- ADAM CRAFTON reports from the London Stadium

KADEENA COX stormed to gold last night in the T38 400 metres final at the World Para Athletics Championships — but still wasn’t content after missing out on breaking her own world record. Last summer Cox became the first British Paralympian to win gold in two different sports since 1984, as she topped the podium in the 400m on the track and then in the cycling time trial. Earlier this week, she had claimed a silver over 200m but last night she won her first gold medal of these World Championships. Cox claimed Britain’s 14th gold as she pulled a remarkable 40 metres clear of her rivals to win in 1min 2.87sec. Her nearest challenger, the Japanese Yuka Takamatsu, finished six seconds behind. Cox, 26, who was nursing a hamstring problem, was still aggrieved to fall short of her world record — 1:00.71 set in Rio. She said: ‘I’ve got a bit of a niggle in the hamstring. Then you add in the neurological condition and I am having some problems on my affected side. I didn’t hit my world record which I would have liked to have done, but I am happy with the win.’ Cox competes today in the T38 100m against fellow Brit and world
