Kolarov exit adds pressure

-

WHEN the dust had settled on the first Manchester derby on foreign soil, Pep Guardiola was left with more questions than answers. Guardiola’s admission that Aleksandar Kolarov was left out of the game because he is to sign for Roma after the clubs agreed a £5.8million deal has heaped pressure on the City manager. Having spent £54m on Kyle Walker, who made his debut at the NRG Stadium, City hope to wrap up the £26.5m signing of Danilo from Real Madrid in Los Angeles this weekend and are in talks with Monaco over £50m-rated Benjamin Mendy. But Kolarov’s departure has opened up another vacancy in a defence that has already lost Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna. ‘Obviously you need more than one week of preparation,’ said Kevin De Bruyne after a 2-0 defeat for City. ‘The new players have to adapt.’ Ederson Moraes made his first appearance since his £35m move from Benfica. But the keeper’s decision to rush off his line in the 37th minute let Romelu Lukaku nod the ball past him and score in an empty net. Marcus Rashford added the second. Lukaku’s Belgium team-mate De Bruyne added: ‘I think he will score 20 to 25 goals for United a season.’
