Mel and Sue swap Bake Off for the Generation Game

- By Showbusiness Correspondent

Former Great British Bake off presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins are to reheat a TV classic.

They will reunite for the first time since they left Bake off last year to front a remake of old Saturday evening family favourite The Generation Game.

The game show, featuring couples taking on a variety of tasks, first appeared in 1971 with Bruce Forsyth as presenter.

He was replaced by Larry Grayson but returned for a second spell in the early 1990s. Jim Davidson took over in 1995 and the series ran until 2002.

The new incarnation, due to air on BBC1, will include many features familiar to fans of previous series as pairs of contestants from different generations of families take on tasks in the hope of securing a chance at winning prizes from the show’s famous conveyor belt.

In a statement, Miss Giedroyc and Miss Perkins said: ‘It’s a cuddly toy, it’s a toaster, it’s a circular power saw, no it’s Mel and Sue doing The Generation Game! We can’t believe it, we are so excited!’

The pair have pursued solo projects since quitting Bake off in the wake of its move to Channel 4. Miss Giedroyc has recently been seen hosting BBC singing contest Pitch Battle, while Miss Perkins fronted Sky1 game show The Big Spell.

It has yet to be announced when the new Generation Game will be shown.
