Hit-and-run drunk jailed for killing daughter of millionair­e

A DRINK- driver who killed a millionair­e’s daughter in a motorway smash has been jailed for six years.

Ion Rusu, 25, was nearly three times the legal limit when he crashed his Peugeot 206 into Mohini Arora’s BMW convertibl­e, causing it to flip over.

Rusu got out of his car after the accident but then drove off. Miss Arora, 25, was the daughter of a successful businessma­n in India and had been work- ing Rusu for anda his marketing passenger firm had in been London. making rude gestures at other motorists before the crash.

Earlier that night he was seen driving erraticall­y, pulling out in front of a car and driving on the wrong side of the road. Just before the accident on an evening in November last year, his car swerved into the central reservatio­n of the M20 in Kent before bouncing off into the BMW.

Both cars veered off the carriagewa­y on the nearside, Maidstone Crown Court heard.

The BMW mounted the crash barrier and hit an electricit­y substation before flipping over.

Rusu stopped briefly but fled the scene, abandoning his passenger friend.

Shortly before midnight Rusu returned to the scene to meet the friend but police noticed recent damage to his car and arrested him. Romanian-born Rusu, who was living in Gillingham, Kent at the time, had 99 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms. Rusu pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by careless driving while over the prescribed alcohol limit, and drink-driving at a previous hearing. He was sentenced on Friday and was banned from driving for eight years. Daniel Stephenson, defending, said Rusu had come to the UK to support his family and his employer described him as hon-- est, trustworth­y and popular. Mr Stephenson added that Rusuno the otherUK ‘will again’. opportunit­ybe deported to and work havein Detective Constable Di Walker, of Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit, said: ‘Ion Rusu should never have sat behind the wheel of a car after having consumed so much alcohol that he was unable to drive responsibl­y. ‘His actions resulted in the death of a young woman who had her whole life in front of her.’ He added: ‘Rusu’s behaviour in the months since this incident have been nothing short of shameful, breaching his bail conditions on a number of occasions and failing to attend a previous court hearing.

‘This has only added to the grief experience­d by the victim’s family and demonstrat­es a lack of understand­ing on his part for the seriousnes­s of the offences committed.

‘ The custodial sentence received is thoroughly deserved on this occasion.

‘His actions both before and after the collision demonstrat­e his inability to act in a responsibl­e manner or abide by the laws we are all bound by.’
