singer Petula Clark, who has juggled a successful career with raising three children, has issued a stern warning to women trying to have it all.

‘You can have a very successful career or a great family life, but not both,’ she tells me at a party in the West End.

‘I thought I was superwoman, I thought I could do it all, but you can’t. Or, you can do it all, but you can’t do it all well.’

Petula, 84, no longer lives with her husband of 56 years, film producer Claude Wolff, and now has a boyfriend whose identity she’s keeping secret.

‘Life does these things to us,’ she adds. ‘Of course, it’s painful to think something that was so wonderful had changed but he has his life and I have mine.’
