THE use of the quote: ‘I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!’ on the note has been criticised because the Pride And Prejudice character who uttered it, Caroline Bingley, was not a bookworm — she was just trying to impress mr Darcy.

Jane had a much sharper face — some might call it sour. And she was sharp. I think of her as being like a bracing martini.’

Like the new £5, the note contains animal fat thanks to the production process, which incensed vegetarian and religious groups.
