Would you give up your seat to a breastfeeding mum?

-

I FEEL so sorry for Bryony Esther, who had to breastfeed her baby standing up on a train because no one would offer her their seat (Mail). I was eight months pregnant with my son and had my three-year-old nephew with me on a packed, hot Tube train, but not one person got up to give me their seat. It’s not just pregnant or nursing mothers who face this. I witnessed a young mum allowing her two children to sit on seats while an elderly lady struggled to keep her balance standing up on the Metro. It doesn’t seem to occur to some people that others are in more need than them. ANNE BELL, Manchester. BRYONY ESTHER complained on Facebook when fellow travellers in a crowded commuter train refused to give up their seat. She took a selfie, including the passengers’ faces, hoping to embarrass them in the eyes of their friends and families. What is it about women these days? They want equality when it suits, but still require special considerations to be afforded whenever they require. Those other passengers paid for their travel like Miss Esther, so are surely entitled to their seats. There is no such thing as manners nowadays, especially when many women complain when men exhibit ‘sexist’ behaviour, such as opening doors for them. Men cannot win and chivalry is dead. WILLIAM SMITH, Carlisle, Cumbria. IF BRYONY Esther could stand on a train, breastfeed, take a selfie and moan that no one had offered her a seat, she has come up with a whole new meaning for the term multi-tasking. WILF DOE, Nottingham.
