Avoid the daily grind

READER Ronald Havenhand would have us boycott expensive coffee shops and brew up at home instead (Letters). He makes a good case for making big savings by investing in a coffee grinder and buying your own beans, but the cost isn’t half of the issue.

It isn’t merely the coffee we enjoy, but also the social aspect of having a mug in different surroundings with likeminded folk. There’s nothing nicer than being served coffee and cake you don’t have to prepare yourself. Mr Havenhand needs to get out more. ROD GRAHAM,
