Football’s ‘sexiest CEO’ in video nasty

- Charles Sale

ENGLISH football politics has broken new ground with a female candidate bidding for a place among the blazers on the FA Council posting a bizarre election campaign video on YouTube.

Mansfield’s Carolyn Radford, who considers herself the ‘sexiest CEo’ in the Football League according to her hashtag in a tweet sent from the clubs’ summer meeting, hopes to win a five-way contest for two places available on the council with the help of the cheesiest of videos sent to all voting clubs.

Accompanying the footage are repetitive nursery rhyme- style lyrics starting: ‘Do you wanna a girl on council, who is seasoned through and through, but not so seasoned she won’t try something new, a girl who is old enough to know and young enough to do, well it’s up to you, it’s up to you, it’s strictly up to you. And It’s Carolyn, Carolyn, Carolyn, Carolyn, Carolyn, Carolyn, Carolyn for me.’

Unfortunately for Radford, who is married to Mansfield chairman John, the electorate from the three FL divisions are unlikely to be swayed by her unprecedented self-promotion.

IS a promotional dream for golf ball suppliers Titleist that their heavily-branded van is pictured in so many images of Open champion Jordan Spieth’s epic recovery shot from the practice range on hole 13 of his final round at Royal Birkdale — especially as Spieth (above) plays with a Titleist ball he always marks with a Z to remind him to ‘zero in’ on the target. GIANT sports sponsors Emirates having second thoughts about their FA Cup sponsorship — after being expected not to extend the deal — will be welcome news for the ruling body.

The FA already have their hands full on the sponsorship front finding a backer to replace Vauxhall as team sponsor, while there are also doubts whether mobile phone network EE’s backing of Wembley will continue after BT’s takeover. Another FA sponsor, Mars, whose deal expires in 2018, are now concentrating on digital promotion.

Wembley also have considerable problems on the personnel front with a number of important staff quitting. They include the head of marketing, two sales executives, a senior event manager, the head of Wembley tours and a digital chief. An FA spokeswoman said all companies go through phases of people leaving.

Meanwhile, there has been surprise at Wembley that boutique sports agency Fuse have been hired to help market corporate hospitality seat sales. FA commercial chief Mark Bullingham was managing director at Fuse before joining the FA, who say Fuse had the special expertise needed.

IS understood that BBC Sport paid just £100,000 for the rights to the US PGA, after the organisers’ agents IMG’s £2million-a-tournament talks with Sky broke down. The BBC are expected to announce the one-year contract today.
