A thug was jailed for life yesterday for beating a boy of five to death.

Marvyn Iheanacho flew into a rage at Alex Malcolm because the child had lost a shoe. he battered him to death in a park. the 39-year-old, who has multiple convictions for violence, including against women, was looking after Alex while dating his mother, Lilya Breha.

the shocking case has led to calls for a national domestic violence register so police can watch repeat offenders and warn any new partners.

Miss Breha, 30, said she had no idea about Iheanacho’s violent past. She had been introduced to the jobless father of three by a mutual friend.

In a moving statement read to court she said: ‘Every day I wake up and I ask god to take me too. I will exist but in reality my life ended when Alex died.’

Alex’s father, Leroy Malcolm, said he had been blocked from seeing his own son before his death after being told there was a ‘better man’ in his life.

Iheanacho was jailed for life with a mini- mum term of 18 years for the murder in Catford, south-east London, last November. Prosecutors at Woolwich Crown Court took 15 minutes to read out all his convic- tions. Victims’ campaigner harry Fletcher said the case showed ‘an overwhelming need for a domestic violence offender register’.
