I ALSo remember the V1 vividly (Peterborough). I was eight and living in Holland.

They came over frequently and our parents told us that if a V1 stopped, to run for cover. My sister, aged three, and I were playing outside one day when a V1 came over on its way to England.

Suddenly, there was a huge explosion, so I shouted to my darling sister: ‘Come on, run for home.’

I ran faster, of course, but looking back I saw she’d lost a shoe. Being a caring, loving sister, I shouted, while still running ‘Go back and get it,’ which she did. After all I was the boss. Thank goodness she doesn’t remember!
