We trust hairdressers more than charities

TRUST in charities has collapsed amid evi- dence of dirty tricks to boost donations.

Hairdressers are now more trusted than charities, which will be a severe blow to the good causes they support, according to a report.

A series of Daily Mail investigations has revealed how charities have been adopting illegal and unethical practices such as cold-calling vulnerable donors and sharing personal data without permission.

And a number of Britain’s best known charities were fined this year for snooping on donors and ranking their wealth.

Just 26 per cent of us trust charities, according to the survey for the volunteering organisation Pro Bono Economics by FTI Consulting. Some 45 per cent said they were cautious of charities and 10 per cent explicitly distrust them. Hairdressers, meanwhile, were trusted by 45 per cent.

The study also found trust in the law and order system was low. Just 38 per cent said they trusted judges. The figure was 44 per cent for the police.
