MUM WHO SAYS: I SHOULD’VE KNOWN DANGERS

-

FELLOW Loose Women presenter Kaye Adams, 54, was shocked when Nadia and Maddie tracked her daughter, Charly, 15, down to a tiny village in Scotland.

She says: ‘When Nadia and Maddie rang me up in Scotland, where I live, a few weeks ago to say that they knew exactly where Charly was, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

‘When Nadia so vividly illustrated to me how Snap Map worked, I felt like a complete fool and inadequate parent. They knew my daughter’s precise location, in the middle of nowhere.

‘I don’t want to give in to paranoia. But it would be naive to think there aren’t completely unfazed by it, which was worrying in itself. Of course, Snapchat say you can choose to have Snap Map on or off. But when you plug it into the adolescent brain, it’s not that simple.

‘It doesn’t take into account their natural risk-taking tendencies and every average teenager’s need to feel popular and included.

‘With those factors, it all becomes a dangerous mix. In my view, it’s designed to keep young people checking their phones even more. This is about putting that worm in their brains, which keeps nagging: “Is someone, somewhere, having a better time than me?”’
